Sadistic Challenge

Shafer over at I'll Show You Mine poses a poetry challenge. I urge you all to give it a shot. It took some doing, but I just finished mine and it should be up as soon Shafer gets his shit together.

Shafer's last call for public poetry was the well received "Tiger Poems" series, all of which, I hear, will soon be published together. If you can't wait for the book my Tiger Poem (inspired by both NYC tabloid news and the inimitable Byron Crawford) is here.

"Why didn't we hit Sweden?"

I keep checking, but for some reason that TRL website still doesn't have the new Bin Laden video. I'll keep clicking, and let y'all know.

Two questions. Does this help or hurt Bush or Kerry? Should I get the fuck out of NYC right this second?

5 Greatest MCs

According to Jay-Z on Charlie Rose:
1. Biggie
2. Tupac
3. Kane
4. Rakim
5. a guy by the name of Scarface

Shady '08

"...assemble our own army to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our President."

Don't know about you folks, but I'm a damn sight nervous about next Tuesday. As far as I can tell the race is a dead heat, and I've got a sickening feeling the bad guys will steal this one too. The worst part is this feeling of impotence. What can we do? I know some people hopping busses to Pennsylvania (a swing state) this weekend to try to get out the vote. Props to them.

How can you help? Blow up the request lines at TRL.

This is all over the blogosphere now, but if you live under a rock and only come out to check in with the good Doctor, Eminem's new video is hitting on all 12 Detroit-built anti-Bush cylinders. It's a mediocre song, but a compelling and well-done video, and the ending must have 8th grade Civics teachers all over going absolutely ecstatically bananas. If you're like me and don't have cable, you can watch it here.

Here's a link to TRL where you can vote to get this on the air as much as possible between now and Election day.

Update:
My lovely wife was actually moved to tears by this video, which should tell you a little somethinig about powerful it is (and a little more about how crazy she is).

Tard-Blog

Fans of Mr. Babylon will be pleased to learn of another teacher's blog, one that makes your's truly look positively dedicated and eager. Tard-Blog is exactly what the name would have you believe. It's gross, insensitive, disturbing, and funny as hell.
(The site itself seems to go down a lot, so here's a link to a mirror.)

Airing of the Grievances

I spend an inordinate amount of time over at Hornfans.com, and many folks don't understand why. Threads like this a re a major reason why. (A working knowledge of both Texas football and Seinfeld is necessary to truly appreciate.) You're killing Independent Vince!

The Happiest Little Man in the World

Good times.

I'm beginning to supect that Bill Simmons may have a cocaine problem. I don't know how he churned out 5000 words this funny and this passionate between last night's game and this morning, but he did.

Ch-Chung

Not to get all Gothamist on your ass, but none ova dan me main man and oldest friend (as in I've known him the longest, not that he's ancient) Postell Pringle will be on Law and Order tonight, 10pm Eastern, NBC. Pos is an actor, a musician, and the main architect behind my "Fuck Madlib" theory, so check it! He's done some cool independent films and a lot of great theater. On-stage I've seen him beat-boxing in the Merchant of Venice, singing a hot and heavy rock duet with the chick from "Paradise By the Dashboard Light," even jerking tears in a dramatic turn as a wrongly imprisoned man, but, as far as I know, this is his first big break on the idiot box. He plays a "cute" detective. Respec'!

Cursed

I'm on the BoSox bandwagon, partly because I love an underdog, partly because I hate the Yankees, and mostly because I think it'd be just delicious irony for the Sox to pull off the miraculous comeback against their hated rivals only to lose in the World Series to Jeff Kent, the Astros, and the most hated man in Beantown, former Texas Longhorn, the Rocket Roger Clemons.

Here's a clip of the amazing ending (right click, save as) to last night's NLCS game.

that game turned us into the Hilton sisters

Bill Simmons (who better?) puts the reader in the stands for those last two wild-ass ALCS games at Fenway.

Yosemite Sam? Goddamn!

I hardly ever check Pitchfork these days, so I'm a little late on this, but they've got news of a Slint reunion. Even though I never really went for a lot of that post-rock/Tortoise-y stuff they inspired (and, individually, often participated in,) Spiderland remainis one of my all-time favorite records, and that Ep with the dead guy on the cover is pretty ill too. I've been wanting to use that music as soundtrack to some sort of evil chase scene for years. Anyway, my only question is where the fuck is former bassist (and original member of Squirrel Bait!) Ethan Buckler in all this? His band, King Kong, are infintely better than Tortoise or the laughably named The For Carnation. The Kong have perfected their funky caveman retard rock to such a level that it, if you have any appreciation for true beauty, will blow your freakin' mind. The latest record takes place entirely in outer space. Heeba. Hooba. Hobba.

Bitchslap!

"You have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably."

Jon Stewart lays the smackdown on those Crossfire clowns on their own show. His performance here is masterful. Impressive.

With Apologies to Neil

The new Prince video, Cinammon Girl, is highly topical and a whole lot better than most of his recent NPG crap.

Watch Out, Urrsher!

This Carl Lewis video is the hotness!!! Check out the chick in the sunglasses in the hot-tub scene.

Stunning Post-Debate Strategy Change

Kerry reinvents his dirty-ass self with crunk new image make-over. Pledges to keep it trill. Props to So Many Shrimp for breaking this important election season story.

Please

I don't want to talk about it. 'Horns, 'Dawgs, Falcons... uggh.

Big Game

TX/OU is this Saturday. The Red River Shootout. Smack talk is flying. Mojo is working. This is Texas' year. Believe that. Perhaps you aren't as excited about this as I am. Watch this, you will be.

Consider also, Cedric Benson, TX running back and the nation's leading rusher. With stats like these, if dude has a good game Saturday the Heisman is his.

OU sucks.

Old News

This Fuck New York video came out before the RNC, but I didn't see it until shortly before J-Smoov posted an interview (scroll down to 9-15) with its creators. If you haven't seen it, well then, Rummy, what you say?

Fuck you too.
